Kentucky PLTW has been invited to participate with the universities across the Commonwealth in their “Posters at the Capitol” program. This program is intended to help members of Kentucky’s legislature and the Governor better understand the importance of involving undergraduates in research, scholarly, and creative work. This is the third time PLTWKY high school programs has been invited to participate in the event.
What this means is that our best students and projects have been invited to present their work in the Capitol building during a legislative session. In previous years there has been significant traffic between presenters and State Legislators. Your students if selected would have the opportunity of expressing to legislators their innovative ideas and show off work they have completed. This is a great opportunity for our students and programs.
Most students will be showing off assignments that they have completed in either their Engineering Design and Development (EDD) Course or Biomedical Innovation (BI) Course, but we would be interested in seeing assignments from courses that student have taken further. If there is exceptional student work from students that has not been completed those courses feel free to submit it to be reviewed. Participation in the capstone courses while extremely beneficial to completion of this project they will not be a part of the criteria when we look at selecting projects. We will be looking to have projects from diverse regions throughout the state, but quality of the student work will be the main criteria. At the university level this event is primarily showing off research so a major question that your students will be asked for is “what data have you collected and how are you using it to broaden knowledge, solve your problem, or prove your solution”.
